Guatemala Mission Trip - The Guatemala mission effort is a cooperative construction project with the Mayan Indians in the Highlands of Guatemala. This effort began in 1996 when the Brandermill Church sent its first international mission team to serve in a foreign country. It has continued every year since with a team of approximately ten spending eleven days doing some form of construction work. In the initial years homes were built and recently the effort has been to build vented cook stoves to replace unvented pit fires. The stove project resolves a chronic problem of respiratory and eye infections and conserves firewood. Although this is a construction effort no construction experience is required the physical skills needed are taught “on the job” in a few hours. All that is required is a desire to serve those in an underdeveloped country that lacks the financial resources that we take for granted. Working in teams of two you will complete two or three stoves working directly with the Mayan family that receives the stove. This is a unique spiritual opportunity to experience and do the work that Christ commanded us to do. |
