Who We Are

PTESAR is a trained, certified and fully equipped mounted search and rescue unit, capable of serving the public as a qualified resource that assists in locating lost or missing persons in the State of Maine's large outdoor area, in a timely and efficient manner, without endangering the searchers or further hazarding the lost persons.

We are a specialized unit of the overall search and rescue units. We are a very effective resource for active techniques, in that we can provide many skills depending on the type of search we are called out for. Mounted units can aid in area confinement, move quickly to cover a large area in a short period of time, assist in transportation of equipment and victims. We are able to slow search, perform mutiple sweeps, hasty search, grid search in fields and open woods, and work cooperatively assisting other SAR units.

The Search Rider of a mounted unit must adhere to all the requirements for search training provided by MASAR. In addition to initial requirements for search training, the Search Rider must adhere to the training requirements specific to the mounted team. The horses of the mounted team must also meet certain requirements to be acceptable for SAR.
