Here, the first grade students, under the direction of their teacher, Tina Hoppe, pose for their identification
photo with eager anticipation to get "down and dirty" with the project before them.
After a lesson on how seeds grow, and fir tree seeds in particular, by Cynthia Hall, Hall's Christmas Tree Farm,
and a detailed explanation of how to plant the seeds, the kids take the first step. They carefully fill little peat pots with a
prepared potting soil and gently but firmly tamp the soil with a small block of wood.
After the peat pots have been properly filled, the next
step is to place 3 to 5 seeds on the top of the soil and press the seeds to make firm contact with the soil. After that, the seeds
are thoroughly moistened with a spray bottle of water. Cynthia Hall, and her assistant, Elaine Law, supervise the procedure.
