Much of the work under this program, for 2003/2004, was funded through a grant awarded by the Maine Forest Service and the USDA Forest Service.

Shown here are two of the instructors at the Tri County Technical Center in Dexter. They are responsible for teaching the building trades to all the kids in Piscataquis, Penobscot and Somerset Counties who are interested in learning the different tasks of the building trade. On the left is Mark Levasseur. On the right is John Guay. John heads up the Building Trades program. They arrived on the morning of July 19 with the various parts of the bulletin board that had been constructed by their students. Before the day was over, this was the result. The only problem encountered was the little loader in the back ground of the next picture was not nearly enough machine to lift the roof into place. However, that problem was soon solved by the Pleasant River Lumber Company, just across the street. Actually, just across State Route 16. They very graciously offered one of their commercial loaders to come to the site, pick up the roof section and gently lower it into place. We cannot thank them enough for their help.

Here is the completed kiosk/bulletin board in place at the end of the day. All that is left to do is a little landscapping around the facility and the introduction of the educational material to be shown.

This Kiosk/Bulletin Board, constructed by the students at the Tri-County Technical Center, was financed in part through a grant awarded by the Maine forest Service and the USDA Forest Service under the Project Canopy Program.

2 Year Old fir tree seedlings from Western Maine Nurseries are looking good.

Here, 536 seedlings are ready to be transplanted into a transplant bed by third grade students. The trees will remain in the transplant bed for two years, then, the same class as fifth graders will transplant these same seedlings to a field as a Christmas tree plantation.

The Milo Garden Club has very generously donated a picnic table for use in future development here at the Kids & Trees Growing Together program. The picnic table was made by Lincoln and Fran Libby.

Below is the schedule of events for each class. There is considerable flexibility in the activities from school to school and even from year to year within the same school.
